We know the first semester of college can be a lot. Classes, new friends, homesickness, and trying to figure out how much laundry detergent is “enough”— it’s a learning curve. But guess what? You’ve made it to Thanksgiving break!
This break is the perfect time to do three things: rest, reconnect, and reflect.
First off, rest. Seriously, your brain and body need it. Take naps, eat all the home-cooked meals you can, and don’t feel guilty about binge-watching football or your favorite shows. College is a marathon, not a sprint, and you can’t pour from an empty cup (or an empty plate—pass the stuffing).
Next, reconnect. Whether you’re heading home or staying on campus, take a minute to check in with your people. Call your family, hug your dog, and catch up with your high school friends. They’ve missed you! And if you’re staying put for the holiday, maybe do a “Friendsgiving” with your college crew. Relationships are what keep us grounded, so don’t forget to nurture them.
And finally, reflect. Look, we know the semester might not have been perfect. But Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, and finding even one thing you’re thankful for can help shift your perspective. Maybe it’s the TA who made a hard class less scary, the roommate who shared their snacks, or the fact that you’ve survived midterms (barely). A little gratitude can go a long way.
So, enjoy this break. Relax, eat too much pie, and take a deep breath. You’re figuring this college thing out, one step at a time. And hey, you’ve got us rooting for you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
